Pirate caterpillar cake
For weeks, my son Jack said he wanted a caterpillar cake. Then, just before his birthday, he said he wanted a pirate cake. Later, he decided to compromise with himself and asked for "a caterpillar looking like a pirate cake!" So here it is, although I think the caterpillar looks more like a pirate version of Mr. T!
He also knew exactly what flavor he wanted - mint chocolate cupcakes and mint chocolate chip ice cream. The cupcakes are dark chocolate fudge with an Andes mint baked in the middle and mint buttercream (which tasted a lot like the butter mints you get at showers...yumm!).
